Honor
Society and Gifted and Talented Art students joined forces this last weekend on
a trip to Chicago. Students earned the trip through academic achievement
and requirements established in each organization. Catera Roberts,
Clarice Roberts, and Marcus Morrow attended the trip as Gifted and
Talented Art Students. While Casandra
Carley, BillyJack Parent and Ari Crone represented the LCO Ojibwe School Honor Society.
Honor Society students had a brief visit to downtown Chicago to see the Willis Tower and Millennium Park. The rest of their time was spent hard at work in a leadership conference. Each morning Honor Society students awoke at 6:00am. They did not return from the conference until 11:00pm!
After Honor Society began their conference Gifted and Talented Art students toured SAIC (Chicago’s college of art), the Art Institute of Chicago, Shedd Aquarium, and viewed the city skyline from the top of the John Hancock building. We walked to many locations allowing us to view the architectural features of downtown like the art deco inspired Chicago Board of Trade in the financial district, the Chicago Public Library, the Chicago Theater, Alexander Calder’s sculpture and the interior of the Santa Fe Building. Using the “L” was an experience in itself for all of us, including taking the Burlington Northern train from Lisle to Union Station.
Ms. Graese and I (Ms. Jacobs) are very proud of our students for meeting their goals. It was an experience of a lifetime for everyone involved. We are all so appreciative of this opportunity that the Lac Courte Orielles Ojibwe School was able to offer us. Chi Miigwech!!
